The Super Junior (QMi) Fic Archival Project

A lot of Super Junior writers—especially QMi writers—have vanished. Of those, the most notable ones I know of are aronnax, pistachiosky, tjsbox, and goodbyecolour. I've been fairly active at hoarding fics from these persons, so here's everything that I have. Freely download whatever you'd like, and pimp this post and these links out wherever you want.

I need your help, though. I don't know how far the deletion trend has spread. I'm missing a lot of fics from some authors. If you have any works that I should add to this post, or know of any other vanished authors that I should mention here, please PM me or e-mail me at wildcygnet@gmail.com! I would appreciate it so much, and so would many other people, I think.

I never plan to take these links down. I have done everything in my power to respect the authors; for example, I've tried to ensure that the original format and content of the fics is preserved and, more to the point, cannot be changed by people who are not the author. I have also taken pains on the fic files themselves to anonymize authors whenever I felt that would be tactful or whenever I have been asked. However (for the sake of distribution and for having a name to use in discussion), I can't really anonymize things like this post, or the folder where all the files are held. I do apologize for that, but out of respect for the author(s), please let's try to keep things as anonymous as possible, don't mess with the files, and don't claim these as your own works. Thank you.

As for why I'm doing this: In short, I can't overstate the value of an author's work to their devoted fans and readers. Imagining that people will be denied the chance to read, enjoy, and learn from these fics breaks my heart, and I want to make sure that doesn't happen.

If you are an author who is planning to delete their work, please consider providing a copy of your works that people can download, or at least give a two-week warning period so that people can save your work to their hard drives before you delete everything. It's courteous, and your readers will thank you for it. I would also really appreciate it if you gave me a copy to continue distributing after your deletion, and I would happily do everything in my power to respect your wishes regarding how it should be distributed (file format, anonymous or not, etc.).

Summer Reading Update

Dear everyone,

My friend and I are considering having an informal book club-type thing over the internet this summer. It would be conducted over e-mail, at least to start; it would consist of "pick up a book and read it and yell about it, at your own pace"; and mostly we don't have any sort of structure for it. What I would hope for ideally is that we post a list of books for people to choose from, as a starting point; people choose books from that list or other books that they think they might like, and go "Hey, I want to read this!" and find others in the group who want to read it with them, and then everybody reads all sorts of things with other people. (I.e. everybody reads books and nobody wastes much time organizing anything.) Ideally people would also only read one book at a time so that nobody gets overwhelmed, but if you want to be a part of ten groups and GLUT YOURSELF ON THE WRITTEN WORD, nobody's stopping you.

TL;DR my friend and I want to start a book reading e-mail chain where you can read books and make friends all summer. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED, please leave a comment here with your e-mail (all comments are screened) and I will keep you in mind when we get things rolling.

Similarly, this is a place for book recs. As book recs given will be unscreened, please take care to include them in a separate comment. So far our list includes Terry Pratchett, Asmiov, Faulkner, Pulitzer Prize books generally, Stephen Crane, Murakami, Philip K. Dick, a few specific titles like this and this and this and specific series like this, and...anything else we can get our greasy paws on. CAN YOU TELL HOW INFORMAL THIS IS. It is so informal.

I made a new RP character! He is a frat boy AU!Ethan, his account is ducttaped, he's sort of just another way to troll the hell out of people ~~including myself~~, and you can find him at pokedrifting and/or a musebox near you. Go over to his account to learn more about him. ~~Why do RP accounts take so long to set up???~~ I think my friend sinha may be bringing a trap!Bugsy from this AU around, too, but he is not sure yet.

I want to play with him a lot, but if I do I'll fail out of school :(. I want to play Green, too, but you know how shiny and enticing new muses are.

Here's a serious RP etiquette question: is it okay to make an intro post if I've already tagged someone previously, or can I not make an intro post anymore? I mean, I can just modify my first-post idea so that it's not longer an intro-post idea, it's not a big deal. I just wanted to know.

I'd like to take a moment to say that I will never, ever completely remove my fics from the Internet; I may anonymize them more thoroughly, but my fics will always be around for you to read, somehow. Pokémon Big Bang is a fandom challenge where people collaborate over a three-month period to create (at least) 10,000-word, mixed-media works. Somehow I still find time to fandom even when I am dying from nursing school! It's like a chronic condition or something.

I finished act 5 ~~act~~ scene 1 and am somewhere in the throes of scene 2!

I also forgot to ramble about cons! I was at Genericon this past year where I volunteered, as I do every year, and had a great time, as I also do every year XD. Homestuck COMPLETELY OVERRAN THAT CON (which is why I picked up Homestuck and started reading it again out of curiosity). Um, I don't know what to say about it, really, but I dragged my anime club, did a lot of studying ._., played rockband 3 for a while (this song is awesome), and ran into a person irl who read my fic ;_;! That was really humbling and blush-inspiring, actually. (Hi, you! I don't know if you want me to broadcast your username all over, so this is an anon shout-out at you, lol). I also saw Redline, OH MY GOD, ALL OF YOU GO SEE REDLINE RIGHT NOW, THAT IS AN ABSOLUTELY AMAZING ANIME MOVIE. Especially those of you who are into animation, go seeeeee iiiiiitttttt. I also went to this awesome panel about developing anime character designs throughout time (80s, 90s, etc.), which helped fill in some of the gaps in my knowledge about anime. I think next year at Genericon I want to try to run a panel about Superflat and its influences on anime, if I can get my paper done in time so that I have a backbone for the presentation. When I do finish that meta-essay I'll throw it up here! Eventually. One day.

I'm also going to Otakon!! I will be cosplaying Green for sure, and I may be cosplaying either Dave from Homestuck or...one of the other ten thousand cosplays I've had mulling about in the back of my mind for ages. Hopefully the latter, orz, I need to get some of these cosplays out the door; or I may just pull out my tried-and-true Turnip head cosplay again, for kicks. idk. If you're coming, let me know and let's hang out!!

I really like giving people recs :(! I want everybody to read all the good fic and to share the love. So to that end, I made a fanfiction rec tumblr. Feel free to follow it and get one rec a day from a wide pool of fandoms!

Also, if anybody has anything I should rec, just drop a comment here or in the tumblr's submit box :D

I might reorganize it so that Pokemon recs are Mondays, Super Junior on Tuesdays, X-Men: First Class on Wednesdays, and Sherlock BBC fic on Thursdays, with possibly Inception fic on Fridays and whatever I feel like on Saturday on Sunday. I'm not really sure yet, though.

Before we begin: This is a scattered collection of the ideas I've been having over the past few days, and is not all-inclusive. Red/Green or John/Sherlock meta would require pages and pages individually, and I'm not currently prepared to tackle either of them in great depth, much less together! This is also based on my headcanons for the Pokémon gameverse and BBC Sherlock season 1—my ideas may =/= your ideas, and that's okay. I am totally open to conversation, but I'm not keen on flaming or spoilers. Thank you for your consideration.

/gives up on the hiatus idea

OH MY GOD BBC SHERLOCK.

Awesome acting, awesome writing, awesome characterization, A;DLS;ALKSR;LAKS, also John/Sherlock has most of the major things I look for in a ship (although it's hard to find fanfiction writers who write the delicate nature of their relationship successfully), AND the show in general has nostalgia factor since I read all the stories as a young teenager.

I've watched through episode 3 and then immediately looped back around to watch episode 1 again, which probably means I'm in trouble, lol. It's amazing what you see on the second watch-through, though! The storytelling is so intricate. On the fandom front, so far I've found the kink meme (sherlockbbc_fic) and a few good authors (thisprettywren and wordstrings), but if you've got any more suggestions, I'd like to hear them! And if anyone wants to talk shop about why John/Sherlock is an awesome pairing, I'm game :D I mostly follow this interpretation of their relationship, because it seems to make the most sense to me (and is also a delicious challenge for writers, I think).

For Madoka fans, I think this MV is pretty awesome, assuming you haven't already seen it (spoiler warning):

Since I haven't yet had a conversation with you guys about Madoka, let's have one: who's your favorite character, and why? Mine's Kyoko, mostly because I instantly identified with her. My friend and I were talking about how horrific it is to identify with any character in this show, because you know terrible things are going to happen to them and your heart is going to be broken all over the place, but I didn't think Kyoko's storyline was too bad, actually? And I seriously didn't see her pairing until the VERY LAST SECOND, but I saw Homura's within the first couple of minutes. Idk, I guess my romance radar is broken.

Is anyone else excited about the Super Bowl? My favorite teams both got knocked out (Saints and Packers), but as a New Yorker I am dutifully rooting for the Giants :D

A small note

You may notice that my Dreamwidth username is larky!

This may seem to be simply because "lark" was already taken, but that is not true! It is, in fact, because my previous username lark has led to the unfortunate assumption that my Internet handle is Lark.

My fandom alias is actually Skylark, which shortens to Larky! It doesn't shorten to Lark, for reasons that are less arbitrary than you'd think, but which I don't feel like explaining. Please, it's only one letter more—call me Larky or Skylark and please don't call me Lark if you can avoid it ("lark" doesn't count, obviously).

I know I've waited a long time to mention this, and I'm sorry, but it's really been bugging me lately.

If there are any small things I've been doing that bother you (besides vanishing forever and not writing enough Pokémon fic), please let me know here or in a PM!

Pretend for a minute that the only contact you have ever had with me is through my fic. We've never exchanged LJ/DW comments or emails, never hung out in chat or on YM/AIM, never talked on the phone or met each other in person, none of that stuff. The only thing you know about me is the kind of fic I write.

What kind of person would you think I am? How would you describe my attitudes and opinions about real-life issues? Or, to use the rephrased question: Based on the way I write my characters, and the way they speak, think, and behave, what would that say to you about me?

Where did winter break go

I'm on hiatus again because I am already behind in my schoolwork and today is the first day of class. Oh god. Don't expect me to resurface until March 12, at least.
Pokémon folk - pokeacts is an awesome kinkmeme. So is pokekink_meme. Both are open to fics & art iirc. CHECK THEM OUT, GUYS.
Super Junior folk - There is a pretty rad SuJu commentfic meme over here. Go put up prompts (especially one-sentence ones, I can write those :<) and write some fics! I am on hiatus but still working on my fics. Slowly. Or, in the case of of my qmidayeveryday assignment, AS FAST AS I POSSIBLY CAN. Sobbing.
I spent most of my break traveling (koyuki continues to be awesome), learning how to be a girl (nail polish ♥!), and being a hermit, which was totally not the point of this break, I am fail at everything. Sorry, everyone. Maybe the summer will be better.
I also got up to the end of Act II in Homestuck (enjoying it!), finished Madoka (LOVED IT, am writing essays and fic), and finally beat Clay (so behind). I also saw some of White Collar (lol Neal is a handsome bb), School Rumble (:D), and Tiger & Bunny (it's okay!).

Sad things, bad things

My hamster Mi died .______. It was in his sleep, so at least it was peaceful. He had been getting up in years—he was at least 1 year, three months old (probably older), and hamster lifespans are usually 2-3 years—but my inner romantic says it was from a broken heart, since he hadn't been able to see Kyu in a long time. .____. ~~I'm kind of worried about Kyu now. A lot.~~
I guess since I wrote it and got deanon'd, I should own up to it—I got sucked into writing a Kangteuk pinch-hit for sujuexchange and you can read it on AO3 here. It's bad, though. I could have done a lot more with it, I guess.
FIC WRITING IS DRIVING ME CRAZY, though, every time I finally get in the writing mood it's like...midnight...and I have to go to bed. WTF. I am still clawing to write my QMi exchange and Halcyon, fml. NOT TO MENTION MY HOLIDAY REQUESTS, AHHH.

Hope your 2012 is going better than mine ._.
